These Startup Accelerators Currently Accepting Applications

Startup Accelerators offer a lot of benefits to founders. These are the ones that are currently open for applications.

I was fortunate to both be a Board member and manage one of the top startup accelerators in my state for almost five years. That particular accelerator largely supported life science-focused startups. But, we allowed startups from other industries to participate.

Startup accelerators support founders in a variety of ways with various benefits. In our case, Fairview Technology Center (FTC) supported startups by offering low-cost, city-subsidized rent. For example, the going rate for office space (non-warehouse) in our area is typically north of $18 per square foot. The rate for space in the FTC was $5 per square foot.

On top of low-cost rent, the participants in FTC got access to a strong stable of advisors from a variety of fields such as Accounting, Finance, Venture Capital, Marketing, and more.

All of this was in exchange for 0% equity in the startup. Most of the more well-known accelerators tend to offer funding and guidance in exchange for equity.

If you have considered applying to an accelerator it is important to know that most have application periods when they are open to new startups. This is because they all tend to use a cohort approach where they group startups into a time-boxed program.
